According to www.nasa.gov/centers/glenn/about/bios/neilabio As spacecraft commander for Apollo 11, Armstrong gained the distinction of being the first man to land a craft on the moon. Neil was also the first to step on its surface. Returning on July 24, 1969, the Apollo 11 craft came down in the Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii. The crew and the craft were picked up by the U.S.S. Hornet then they were put in quarantine for 1-3 weeks. The perfect place to have the Neil Armstrong Monument would be the eclipse which is actually in between the White House and the Washington monument.
